Biography

My main research interest is in identifying epigenetic pathways underlying cardiometabolic disease phenotypes, with a focus on groups of people who are at higher risk of disease in later life. Examples include analyses on individuals of South Asian origin and women with gestational diabetes. The majority of my research draws on large scale population based data derived from genome-wide methylation arrays, but I am also experienced in smaller scale locus-specific work. I am also investigating if DNA methylation can be used as a predictor of future disease and using genetic proxies to distinguish causal pathways from non-causal biomarkers.
