Biography

​

Dr. Figueroa is a molecular epidemiologist and Chancellor’s Fellow, with joint appointment at the Usher Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics and the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM), Cancer Research (CR) UK Edinburgh Centre.

 

She received her PhD in molecular genetics from the State University of New York, Stony Brook and her Master's in Public Health from Columbia University. After postdoctoral training in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) at the National Cancer Institute (NCI, USA), she was promoted to Investigator and was a fully funded independent researcher at DCEG-NCI from 2008 till 2015 before moving to Edinburgh.

 

Her research focuses on molecular epidemiology of cancer, with emphasis on breast and bladder cancers, with particular interest on tissue biomarkers and their association with risk, prognosis and treatment outcomes. â€‹
